Miami-Dade County flipped from Democrat to Republican after decades of control in South Florida.
The latest voter rolls confirm the GOP’s triumph: 464,370 registered Republicans (34%) now outnumber 440,790 Democrats (32.27%) and 429,099 independents and third-party registrants (31.41%). The Republican Party of Florida said the red wave has officially swept Miami-Dade.
Calling it “a monumental victory,” the Republican Party said this seismic shift in voter registration marks a historic rout of the left’s grip on the county, obliterating the county’s long-standing status as a Democratic fortress in Florida.
“Once a liberal citadel, Miami-Dade’s transformation is a stinging rebuke to Democrats,” the Republican Party said. They pointed out that in 2016, Hillary Clinton coasted to a 30-point victory in the county, but the Republicans’ “relentless focus on freedom, prosperity, and resistance to radical Democratic socialism has turned the tide.”
Florida Republicans said Cuban and Venezuelan voters were fed up with leftist policies and have flocked to the Republican banner. Governor Ron DeSantis smashed the Democratic stranglehold in 2022, President Donald Trump sealed their defeat in 2024, and Republican candidates steamrolled key local races in November, seizing Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, Clerk of Court, and Tax Collector.
“This is a total repudiation of the Democrats’ failed agenda. Miami-Dade is no longer their safe haven—it’s the beating heart of the Republican revolution,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. “We’re the party of hardworking families, Hispanic patriots, and communities demanding safe streets, top-notch schools, and a booming economy. Miami-Dade proves the unstoppable momentum of the Republican message.”
The Florida GOP credits this landslide to the tireless leadership of Miami-Dade’s Republican warriors: Chairman Kevin Cooper, State Committeeman Juan Porras, State Committeewoman Liliana Ros, former State Committeeman Kevin Cabrera, and former Chairmen Alex Rizo and Rene Garcia. The party also said that U.S. Senator Marco Rubio laid the bedrock for this historic takeover.
Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, Florida has seen historic growth in Republican voter registration. In 2018, when Governor DeSantis was first elected, Democrats had a 300,000 voter registration edge. The Republican advantage is now 1.29 million.
“From Marco Rubio’s early victories to Ron DeSantis’s bold leadership, from Donald Trump’s commanding wins to our fearless donors and grassroots fighters, this is a victory for every Republican who refused to let Miami-Dade stay blue,” Republican Party Chair Power added. “Miami-Dade is now a blazing red fortress, and we’re charging toward an even brighter future!”
Florida Republicans recently celebrated flipping Hillsborough County red, noting the Democratic Party had lost control of the third largest county in the Sunshine State at the time.
