Jacobs, Segal to Face Off in OC Mayoral Race

Orange County mayoral candidates Teresa Jacobs and Bill Segal will face off in the General Elections in early November, as neither candidate was able to secure 51% of the votes cast in Tuesday’s primary election.

In a hard fought four-way race, Jacobs dominated her opponents to secure 51,784 of the total 122,523 votes or 43%.

Segal, who got the second highest number of votes, garnered 28,545 votes or 23% and at times was virtually neck and neck with third place winner, Linda Stewart.  When the final votes were counted, Stewart got 23,545 votes or 19%.

Matthew Falconer who placed fourth secured 18,408 votes or 15 percent of the votes cast.

Speaking after her major victory, Jacobs said that much of it could be attributed to the grass roots campaign that was run, given the limited resources she had, as compared to two of her opponents.  Jacobs also said that a clean campaign played into her overwhelming victory.

Meanwhile, Segal,  commenting on Jacob’s significant lead in the polls, said that the November General Elections would be a quite different race from the primary in which there was much partisanship.  There would be a much higher turnout in November and more of his supporters would be heading to the polls, he said.    Segal added that over the course of the next 11 weeks, Orange County voters would be learning more about his plans for bringing jobs into the area and supporting economic growth.

Stewart in conceding defeat, told supporters she was not done yet.  She also said she had not yet decided whom to support in the November race.
