Unlike the Washington Shores community in Orlando, where the sod was turned last November to begin construction of a new Walmart Neighborhood Market, Hillsborough County Commissioners voted Tuesday to reject such a plan for the Carrollwood community.
In a unanimous 6-0 vote, with one commissioner absent, the Hillsborough County Commission heard the concerns of homeowners and rejected the proposal to erect a 45,000 square foot Walmart Neighborhood Market and a 6,100 sq foot Wawa store and gas pumps, wstp.com reported.
Homeowners of the well-organized Carrollwood community said, the Walmart neighborhood grocery would “ruin the neighborhood as they know it,” and bring more traffic to their quiet streets, wstp.com also reported.
The commissioners said the grocery store was not compatible with future land use plans and won’t be good for the neighborhood.
