A 13-year-old Central Florida student was recently arrested for bringing a knife to a local middle school.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the student at Shields Middle School in Ruskin south of Tampa for bringing a knife onto school grounds.
This month, school administrators received a tip from an anonymous source regarding a student possibly in possession of a weapon.
An administrative search was conducted, during which the school principal located a fixed-blade knife measuring 3 1/4 inches inside the student’s backpack.
The student, 13-year-old Erik Daniel, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property.
“There is absolutely no place for weapons on our school campuses,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thanks to the anonymous tip and the quick action of school staff, a potentially dangerous situation was prevented. We encourage students to speak up if they see something suspicious. It can make all the difference.”
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
