Tiffany Moore Gives District a Chance to Speak

Tiffany MooreOrange County Commissioner Tiffany Moore is walking the walk.

Commissioner Moore recently organized a town hall meeting in District 6 which enabled residents, and City of Orlando officials to come together and discuss the burgeoning $1 billion downtown arts and sports venue being discussed for downtown.

At a packed meeting, many residents came out to hear what the city had to say regarding minority contracts and the quality of jobs that would result from the construction of the project and its subsequent opening.

Speaking for the city, Orlando’s Chief Administrator Byron Brooks promised that the project would bring many good paying jobs that offered a living-wage.  Brooks also pledged that the city would have an aggressive plan to reach out to minority contractors.

Many in the audience expressed concern surrounding parking, and the impact the project would have on the community.

Most, however, seemed to support the scope of the plan and looked forward to the jobs that would ultimately benefit an area long deprived of the benefits of Orlando’s explosive growth.

This was the first of four similar town hall type meetings scheduled around the county to discuss the project.

Another commissioner, Teresa Jacobs, who originally first proposed  the town hall meetings, has a community briefing scheduled for May 7 in the Orange County Administration Building, 201 S. Rosalind Ave.
