Tallahassee Police Officer Tasers 62-year-old Black Woman In the Back (Video)

A Tallahassee police officer has been placed on administrative leave, after he was seen tasing a 62-year-old African-American woman in the back, as she was walking away.

Officer Terry Mahan has been place on leaving pending the outcomes of an internal investigation, according to the Tallahassee Democratic, rawstory.com reported.

Police officers had responded to a particular neighborhood on Tuesday, based on reports of drug dealings and three suspects were arrested.

Viola Young, 62, then approaches Officer Mahan to ask about one of the men detained, when he advises her to stay back. He tries to grab her arm and when she walks away, cell phone video shows the officer pull out his Taser and fires it into her back. The video was provided to police by neighbors.

Young falls to the ground and is taken into custody on charges of resisting an officer without violence. She was released later on Tuesday.

Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday that, based on the video he has “enough concerns to call for an internal investigation and have Officer Mahan put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” according to rawstory.com.

Rawstory.com also reported that Tallahassee defense attorney Chuck Hobbs has written to State Attorney Willie Meggs, asking him to “strongly consider” filing charges against the officer.
