Florida has one of the most unfair tax systems in the country, with the poor overtaxed and the wealthiest 1 percent most undertaxed, according to WalletHub, a personal finance website.
WalletHub ranked states in terms of tax fairness and the findings show that Florida has the 6th most unfair tax system in the nation. The poor are most overtaxed in Washington, Hawaii and Illinois.
Tax systems vary across states and WalletHub analyzed income taxes, sales and excise taxes and property taxes. The survey looked at a nationally representative online survey of more than 1,050 people to assess what Americans think a fair state and local tax system looked like. Public perception was then compared to data on the real structure of tax system in the states.
Montana, followed by Oregon and South Carolina have the fairest tax systems.
