A Young Guns defendant was convicted in an Interstate 95 road rage incident where he took out a gun and yelled at another driver who had children in the car.
After a two-day trial, a St. Johns County jury found Young Guns defendant Anthony Grey guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault (Firearm), Improper Exhibition of a Dangerous Weapon, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle.
On May 24, 2024, Grey, who was only 24 years old at the time, was driving south on Interstate 95 when he initiated a road rage incident.
The defendant took out a gun and proceeded to wave it while yelling at another driver who was in the car with his wife and three children. He then intentionally fired a shot.
Grey sped away from the scene to a rental home in Flagler County where he disassembled the gun and disposed of the parts in the ocean and a nearby wooded area.
“Another example of a Young Guns defendant resorting to gun violence aimed at a family with small children on their way to Disney,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “By the grace of God, no one was injured or killed. He deserves the maximum sentence and we will be urging the judge to do just that.”
The case was investigated by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorneys Sarah Thomas and Val Avanesov successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Lee Smith presided over the case and will pronounce sentence at a later date.
Grey faces up to 30 years in prison for the crimes.
