Shameless: AT&T Continues Squeeze on Workers, Customers

On Thursday, August 4, 2012, workers, customers and community organizations will call attention to AT&T’s treatment of its workers and the impact on customers.

At midnight, on Saturday, August 4, the contract for 23,000 Communications Workers of American (CWA) District 3 members, who work as network technicians for AT&T, will expire. As customer’s bills rise and services decline, AT&T is again putting profits ahead of its promises by gutting pay, healthcare, retirement security, and other benefits for their highest performing workers. Despite earning billions in profits (approximately $3 billion per quarter) and giving its CEO tens of millions of dollars in bonuses, it now cries poverty in order to cheat its workers out of the benefits they deserve and customers out of the services they were promised. AT&T depends on this highly skilled workforce to patch together its aging and crumbling communications infrastructure and keep the promises it made to its customers to deliver high quality telecommunications services.
WHO: CWA workers, their families, customers and community representatives tell AT&T it’s not right to squeeze workers and customers for profit at the expense of promises
WHAT: Informational Picket
WHEN: Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 5:30PM to 6:15AM
