The SEIU labor union, which represents thousands of Orlando workers, endorsed a candidate for Orlando Mayor in the 2027 election – a sign city government workers and the union are ready to move on from Buddy Dyer.
SEIU Florida endorsed Anna Eskamani in her bid for Mayor of Orlando in 2027. The Democrat said she was “proud” to receive the endorsement and added that these workers who keep Orlando running every single day.
“From the city employees who fix our roads and maintain our parks, to the airport staff who keep MCO operating, to the healthcare workers who care for us in our most vulnerable moments — you are the heart of this city,” Anna Eskamani said.
Eskamani said she comes from a working-class family, adding that her parents immigrated seeking the American Dream and she watched them work long hours, including multiple jobs, to make ends meet.
“I know firsthand the dignity of hard work and the injustice of being underpaid, undervalued, or unheard,” Anna Eskamani said. “That’s why I have always fought for living wages, safe workplaces, affordable housing, and the right to organize. And that’s why, as Mayor, I will champion a future Orlando where every worker can live with dignity, afford to stay in the community they serve, and have a real voice in shaping our shared future.”
That is not the case under Mayor Buddy Dyer, but SEIU and union workers are hoping Eskamani can deliver better results for Orlando.
