A Florida woman won a $1 million prize playing a scratch-off game.
The Florida Lottery recently announced that Angelique Hernandez, of Ocala, claimed a $1 million prize from the Gold Rush Legacy scratch-off game.
The Marion County woman chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.
The Florida woman turned $20 into $1 million when she purchased her winning ticket from Publix, located at 10301 SE U.S. Highway 441 in Belleview.
She claimed her million dollar prize at Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.
The $20 scratch-off game, Gold Rush Legacy, launched in April 2024 and featured four top prizes of $10 million and 20 prizes of $1 million. There are no top prizes remaining and there are four $1 million prizes remaining according to the Florida Lottery. This game also featured more than $894 million in total cash prizes.
The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-2.97.
Scratch-off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, comprising approximately 74 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2023-2024. Additionally, since inception, scratch-off games have awarded more than $70.8 billion in prizes, created 2,475 millionaires, and generated more than $20.98 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $49 billion to enhance education and sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests 99 percent of its revenue into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,550 Lottery retailers, and transfers to education. Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid over $104.8 billion in prizes and created more than 4,475 millionaires.
