Republicans Hit Rep. Darren Soto for Flip-Flop on Allowing Illegals to Vote in U.S. Elections

Republicans are hitting Central Florida Representative Darren Soto for flip-flopping on allowing illegal immigrants to vote in U.S. elections.

The vulnerable Central Florida Democrat is being targeted by national Republicans in the upcoming congressional election, and hope to make this an issue in Rep. Soto’s re-election.

Calling him “out of touch Democrat Darren Soto,” Republicans say he voted to allow illegal immigrants to decide our elections when he voted in April against the SAVE Act. That legislation requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

Republicans say under mounting pressure, Democratic Rep. Darren Soto then flip-flopped by voting for a bill to prohibit illegal from voting in Washington D.C. That legislation prohibits individuals who are not citizens of the United States from voting in elections in the District of Columbia and repeals the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022 – Rep. Soto voted for it earlier this month.

“Darren Soto’s vote to let illegal immigrants decide our elections was a slap in the face to every American citizen,” said NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole. “While Soto scrambles to rewrite history, voters in Florida won’t forget: Soto chose illegal immigrants and political games over Floridians and our democratic process.”

Republicans say the damage was done and Central Florida voters will not forget that “Soto proved he will prioritize the radical far-left agenda ahead of Floridians.”

The NRCC also pointed out that Congressman Darren Soto’s flip-flop on the issue followed two separate lawsuits by Democrats against Republican President Donald Trump’s executive order requiring voters to prove they are U.S. citizens before registering to vote in federal elections. Republicans believe this is a core issue for the Democratic Party.
