Obama tries to take Control of Gulf Oil Spill Catastrophe

President Obama is seeking to take charge of the BP Oil Spill and over a two-day period will visit Mississippi, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida to assess the ongoing efforts to cap the leaking well and the clean-up efforts underway in the gulf.  Obama will be receiving briefings from area officials and visit with gulf residents impacted by the spill.  This is the president’s fourth trip to the gulf in connection with the oil spill.

Overview of Theodore Staging and Decontamination Site

The Site at Theodore encompasses a multitude of operations located on 50 acres at the Theodore Industrial Port at Core Industries in support of the ongoing cleanup operations associated with the Horizon event.  These operations and their areas include but are not limited to the following:

·         Staging of Personnel, Equipment and Materials
·         On-Site Water Treatment / Recycling
·         Solid and Liquid Waste Minimization
·         Containment Boom Repair Center
·         Marine Support Operations
·         Large Vessel and Equipment Decontamination

Patriot Environmental Services is contracted directly with BP to provide facility, personnel, equipment and material support for the Horizon Incident. Patriot is providing management personnel and systems in order to facilitate overall site management and decontamination operations. Patriot’s management teams have contracted with a number of local contractors and labor sources to provide the vast majority of the Patriot team. Patriot has been and continues to provide on-site training for their locally acquired personnel assets.

Patriot’s role in Theodore is to assist in managing the site for day to day operations including the management of all personnel support needs i.e. food, water, personnel hygiene, comfort and safety on the site. At any one time there may be from 200 to 2,000 personnel at the site during the day.

FERRY FROM DAUPHIN ISLAND, AL TO FORT MORGAN, AL

Later in the afternoon, the President will travel by ferry from Dauphin Island, Alabama to Fort Morgan, Alabama.
