OCSO Touts Success of Criminal Residents Program

The Orange County Sheriff’s office is singing the praises of the “CRUSH” Program which has brought about a 71 percent reduction in calls for service in specific public housing developments.

Criminal Residents Undermine Safe Housing–CRUSH–a collaborative program between the Sheriff’s office, Orange County Public Safety Division-Code Enforcement/Building and Safety, Housing Authority–Section 8, Fire Department, Environmental Protection and the Health Department, was developed in an effort to reduce crime and the fear of crime in public housing developments.

The CRUSH Program focuses on neighborhood maintenance, revitalization, and promotes creative and comprehensive interventions for social problems such as gangs, drugs and other criminal activity.

According to OCSO, the Program has brought great success in the Taylor Apartment Complex and the Park Central Grocery Store where service calls have declined by 71 percent.
