The music played all night this past Saturday night at Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras concert featuring Matchbox 20. Led by front man Rob Thomas, the group promised to “play until they pull the plug” and they delivered, continuing their show until the theme park closed at 10pm.

Matchbox 20 performed all their hits from over the years as well as some new songs, ending their encore with “Push,” released back in 1997 but still a clear crowd favorite. The audience was large and swelled outside the designated concert area that is inside the Universal Studios theme park with the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster whizzing through its first loop above the stage. The crowds stayed until the music ended.

The Universal Orlando concert was special for Matchbox 20 and Thomas as Central Florida is where their career began. The “hometown” concert proved Orlando remains a core support base for the group, which has been producing hit music for more than 17 years.

Matchbox 20 will be launching a summer tour. This concert was part of Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras concert series which brings some of music’s largest names to the Music Plaza stage for park guests and passholders. The Mardi Gras concert series runs on Saturdays (and select nights) through April 20th.
