In the wake of what progressive groups are calling “a historic wave of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and legislation,” LGBTQ+ Victory Institute is partnering with Equality Florida and SAVE to host a training in Orlando for LGBTQ+ political candidates and campaign professionals. The training will be part of its mission to recruit and train a diverse pipeline of LGBTQ+ candidates.
Participants will learn the necessary skills to run for office by engaging in realistic campaign situations and hearing from campaign experts and local LGBTQ+ elected officials.
The training in downtown Orlando will take place on Friday, July 14th from 1:00pm – 8:00pm and Saturday, July 15th from 11:00am – 4:50pm.
The progressive groups and elected officials involved include LGBTQ+ Victory Institute, Equality Florida, SAVE, South Florida State Senator Shevrin Jones, Tampa State Representative Michele Rayner-Goolsby, Orlando State Representative Rita Harris, and Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan. They expect 40+ LGBTQ+ trainees.
LGBTQ+ Victory Institute is working to “increase the number, expand the diversity and ensure the success of out LGBTQ+ elected and appointed officials at all levels of government.”
