Orlando Senator Torres Responds to Governor DeSantis Budget Vetoes

As part of the veto list issued by Governor Ron DeSantis after signing the Florida budget, several projects in Central Florida were vetoed, which drew a response from Orlando Democratic State Senator Victor Torres.

The Central Florida projects vetoed from the state budget the Orlando Democrat was concerned about include:

  • Buenaventura Lakes Drainage Improvements for $1,800,000
  • Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce for $187,500
  • Military History Museum of Osceola County for $765,000

“While I am grateful for the nearly $15 million dollars in local project state funding I was able to secure for our District, I am disappointed in Governor DeSantis’s decision to veto critical funding to support Puerto Rican owned businesses, veterans services and flood relief improvement for residents in Central Florida,” said Senator Torres.

But the ultimate fate of these projects is not yet determined, but the Republican Governor will have to change his mind.

“I will refile these appropriation requests for next budget year and hope that they Governor will look more favorably on approving them,” Senator Torres added.

$29.9 million for multiple Central Florida projects were funded that were championed by Orlando State Senator Linda Stewart, also a Democrat.
