Florida Republicans called out Democratic State Representative Angie Nixon for “vile rhetoric” against Charlie Kirk and demanded Democrats condemn the hateful political attacks.
The Florida GOP said that Jacksonville State Rep. Angie Nixon “disgraced herself and her office by unleashing vile attacks during a time of mourning.” Instead of showing compassion, Republicans said that Rep. Nixon smeared Charlie Kirk’s name with hateful lies, calling him “homophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic…the list goes on and on” and even attacked Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Jimmy Patronis for honoring Kirk, calling them “a tool of white supremacy and I DID NOT STUTTER!”

“Her words, delivered as Floridians and our nation grieve, reveal a bitterness and hatred unworthy of any elected official,” the Florida GOP stated. “While Floridians look for unity, Nixon is fanning the very division at the root of political violence and spitting on the memory of a man who dedicated his life to faith, family, and open dialogue.”
Florida Republicans noted that Charlie Kirk worked to strengthen the American family, urging fathers to step up, believing a stronger family unit could heal our nation – adding that nothing brought him greater joy than being a father. Two young children have been left without their father because of political violence.
Republicans also said that the young conservative leader also lived out his biblical beliefs, led with compassion, and held a special love for the Jewish people and the State of Israel. The Florida GOP said that is why it is especially outrageous for Rep. Nixon to call him antisemitic, noting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself called Kirk a “Lion-Hearted Friend of Israel.”
“Charlie Kirk inspired millions to live boldly in their faith and to love this country,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. “For Angie Nixon to spew this level of hate while Floridians are grieving shows a disturbing lack of respect and judgment. Her words don’t just dishonor Charlie’s legacy, they dishonor her office.”
“The real question here is, if Charlie was everything Nixon has claimed, wouldn’t his followers be rioting and burning down cities? Oh wait, we don’t do that,” continued Power. “His followers instead are filling churches, praying for our nation, and holding vigils, because they know it’s what Charlie would have wanted. Peace and unity.”
The Republican Party of Florida stands firmly against Nixon’s rhetoric. Republicans called on Democrats to condemn the rhetoric, specifically naming House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, and Minority Leader Designate Christine Hunschofsky. Here’s what each of those Democrats said in response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk:
“The shooting of Charlie Kirk today at a university in Utah is a horrific act that I condemn in the strongest terms. Political violence is unacceptable and has no place in our democracy,” House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell posted. “Every American deserves the right to speak freely and safely, regardless of political affiliation. I pray for his family and those impacted by his passing, and I encourage us all to hold firmly to our common humanity.”
“I am deeply disturbed by the murder of Charlie Kirk. Violence has NO place in our politics, and the Florida Democratic Party condemns this despicable and heinous act in the strongest of terms. I will keep Charlie’s wife, Erika, and their young children in my prayers,” FDP Chair Nikki Fried posted.
“Horrified to hear this news today. Political violence is NEVER acceptable. Our differences can never be addressed through violence,” Representative Christine Hunschofsky posted. “Praying for Charlie Kirk and his family.”
