Florida Commission on Ethics Decision on Complaints Against DeSantis’ Staff

The Florida Commission on Ethics issued a decision on complaints filed against Governor Ron DeSantis’ executive staff.

These complaints were filed by the Florida Democratic Party following media reports accusing Republican Governor DeSantis, along with officials in the Executive Office of the Governor, of unethical and illegal solicitation of campaign contributions from lobbyists.

The Florida Commission on Ethics dismissed complaints filed against Governor DeSantis’ executive staff, and Democrats are not pleased.

In response, the Florida Democratic Party issued the following statement after the decision:

“I am disappointed, but not surprised, in today’s decisions by the Florida Commission on Ethics,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Even the appearance of impropriety by government officials is enough to warrant questions about their conduct, but in both cases, the Commission’s Advocate cited ‘insufficient evidence’ to pursue the complaints.

“Ron’s penchant for retaliating against his political enemies is well known — just ask Joe Gruters and the people of Sarasota. Just last week, FDLE fired a deputy chief of staff just days after she filed for whistleblower protections. Ron’s actions have a chilling effect on dissent, and the Commission’s inability to find anyone willing to speak on the record at the risk of their political careers isn’t the same thing as exoneration.

“The Florida Democratic Party will continue to do whatever it takes to hold the Republican Party of Florida accountable for their actions — be it rape allegations levied at the Chairman or ethics violations by the governor.”

  1. Not to dismiss the glaring ethics violations by both DeSantis and his staff, it is really sweet (NOT) that Nikki Fried of all people is filing ethics complaints against anyone. Definitely the pot calling the kettle black. For starters, just google her name with any of these phrases: “ethics” “failing to disclose income” “big sugar” “cane burning” “sugar industry donations” “marijuana business.”

  2. So, I’m not apart of any party. I don’t understand why politicians need to make laws to hide behind. THE PEOPLE ELECTED YOU CAUSE THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW YOUR DOING YOUR JOB. Who gave the Governor the right to use tax payers money to fund a 1 million dollar litigation because FSU college foot ball team didn’t get to play in the playoffs? Really?? 1 million dollars that are needed to help those who need it. NOT A state college that can pay for their own litigation matters.. DeSantis is going to bail out a well funded College football team cause they dodnt go to the playoffs. SOMEONE NEEDS TO REMOVE THE SPENDING POWER AWAY FROM PEOPLE LIKE DeSantis,Biden and Every High level ELECTED official. Stupid pointless spending.
