WHAT: On Wednesday, December 2, Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum and Fire Chief Jim Reynolds will officially open Fire Station 1 and the Orlando Fire Department Headquarters.
Housed with the latest technology and equipment, the new Fire Complex will serve the core of Downtown Orlando and its 14,000 residents and 66,000 workers.
Aside from being the new home for Fire Station 1 and more than 70 firefighters, this building is now the headquarters for the entire Orlando Fire Department (OFD) and houses the following additional units:
· OFD Administrative Offices
· Hazardous Materials
· Dive Rescue
· High Angle Rescue
· Confine Space Rescue
· Trench Rescue
· Collapse Rescue
· Arson/Bomb Squad
· Fire Safety Management
Station 1 represents the City’s sixth LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified fire station, and is aiming for Gold LEED certification. LEED certification is a process of rating highly efficient buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council.
