Orlando secures $6.7 million for neighborhood stabilization program

Mayor Buddy Dyer will be hosting a neighborhood stabilization information meeting, aimed at encouraging community partners to learn how they can help strengthen their communities. The City has secured $6.7 million to help address the effects of foreclosures by forming public/private partnerships to purchase, rehabilitate and sell or rent homes. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 16, at Jones High School Auditorium, 801 Rio Grand Avenue.

George Anthony throws temper tantrums, refuses to answer

Tot Mom's dad, George Anthony was questioned under oath Thursday, by attorneys for Zenaida Gonzales in the civil suit against Casey Anthony, but he refused to answer certain questions. At times becoming very emotional, George lost his temper several times during the deposition.

Deposition Day for Tot Mom’s Parents

Tot Mom, Casey Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony are being deposed today and will face tough questions in the civil suit against their daughter. The Anthonys would be questioned by famed attorney John Morgan who is representing Zenaida Gonzales, who says that her life is ruined, because Tot Mom said a nanny with the same name took Caylee.

Chief Demings receives written censure over stolen gun

Orlando Police Chief Val Demings whose gun was stolen from her unmarked department vehicle, received a written censure. Demings received a written censure for not ensuring that the doors of the vehicle were locked. Also stolen were ammo, a police baton and a pair of handcuffs.

Orange County School Closures Bungled

It is being reported that the manner in which the decision was taken by the Orange County School District to close six schools and re-zone thousands of students, was bungled. There is a court order in place which requires the school district to appoint a bi-racial committee of ten citizens to sign off on any such school closure proposals, but this did not happen.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida Museum accredited

The Seminole Tribe of Florida's Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum has received national accreditation from the American Association of Museums (AAM). It is the first tribally governed museum in the U.S. to receive official certification from the AAM.

Commuters Protest Expressway Toll Hike in Central Florida

Central Floridians have to deal with an increase of 25 cents at most toll booths, implemented by the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority, Sunday. Many motorists are protesting this hike, maintaining that it comes at a terrible time, when the economy is in sharp decline. In their view, such an increase will only lead to additional hardship and is counterproductive, as local roads will now be used.

Biker Has Soft Landing After Fatal Crash

A 39-year-old bicyclist was killed while crossing OBT earlier today. The bicyclist who was stuck by a car, crashed into the windshield, eventually landing in the lap of a passenger. According to eye witnesses, the victim's shoes flew off, along with his backpack. To date, this is the second fatal bike crash in Orange County in 2009.

Bounty Hunter Padilla To Testify In Case Against Tot Mom

Bounty hunter, Leonard Padilla will testify in the civil case against Tot Mom, Casey Anthony. Padilla will give his testimony in May, as the attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez want to speak with George and Cindy Anthony, first. Gonzalez has the identical name as the mystery nanny, who Tot Mom blamed for the disappearance of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee.

Central Florida’s Elderly To Live Better

Congressman Alan Grayson will hand over a check for $3.6 million to the Orlando Housing Authority next Monday. The monies will be used to modernize and develop public housing for the elderly. The funds, which come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, are expected to generate more jobs in the area.
