Candidates Qualify for Orange County Mayoral Race

Several candidates in the Orange County mayoral race turned in the required number of petitions on Monday to qualify for the ballot.

Commissioner Linda Stewart turned in over 8,000 petitions to the Supervisor of Elections, while the Orlando Sentinel reports Commissioner Bill Segal was the first to turn in the necessary signatures from registered voters.   Former Commissioner Teresa Jacobs submitted more than the required number of signatures at 6,800.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Mildred Fernandez who was recently arrested on three felony counts is expected to drop out of the mayoral race and business man, Matthew Falconer will pay the filing fee.

Candidates wishing to qualify for the mayoral race were required to collect 6,042 petitions from Orange County voters, which must be verified by the Supervisor of Elections by May 17th or pay a filing fee of $6,000.
