Two US lawmakers are accusing Walmart in Mexico of engaging in questionable financial behavior, including tax evasion and money laundering.
Congressmen Elijah Cummings and Henry Waxman wrote to Walmart Chief Executive Michael Duke in a letter dated Tuesday, urging him to respond to requests for information regarding allegations that the retail behemoth violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Walmart expanded rapidly in Mexico during the 2000s and is accused of paying $24 million in bribes to Mexican officials, The New York Times reported in April, earlier this year.
