Fort Pierce police arrested a husband and wife after officers say they kept their children in filthy conditions with trash, rotting food, dirty clothes and bugs.

Robin and Ronald Teller, the pair, were taken into custody on Monday, after police responded to the home in the 700 block of South 24th Street, following complaints about a strange odor coming from the home.

Once officers entered the home, they found rotting food, mattresses and sheets covered in brown stains, dirty pots and very little room to walk, wptv.com reported.

The residence was covered with bugs,’ the report reads, according to wptv.com. ‘On top of the kitchen table I found dirty leftover biscuits that were old and had insects on them.’

Robin is a cleaner at the county courthouse. She told detectives that although she tries to clean the home, its “hard and overwhelming.” Ronald works for St. Lucie County, and blames his wife for the filthy condition of the home, wptv.com also reported.

The couple’s two children were removed from the home.
