Central Florida Deputy Faces DUI Charge While On Duty

A Central Florida deputy was arrested on a DUI charge while on duty.

27-year-old Joseph Everett reportedly was showing signs of intoxication at work. Apparently, there was a smell of alcohol on his breath, which led his supervisor to believe the deputy was drunk.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Everett admitted to drinking three coffee mugs filled with whiskey and failed a field sobriety test before being arrested.

According to the Sheriff, he resigned following his DUI arrest.

“Anytime someone chooses to drive under the influence of alcohol, it shows a lack of good judgment,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. “If you lack the proper judgment when it comes to drinking and driving, you have no business working in law enforcement. We hold our deputies to a higher standard than the community, and he failed to meet that standard.”

Everett had been with the Sheriff’s office for two years.
