Orange County deputies are still not sure how 51-year-old Hien Tran, involved in a vehicle crash on Orange County’s east side two weeks ago, died.
The Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday, the Florida Highway Patrol Investigative Team will now lead the investigation and OCSO investigators “will no longer be actively conducting a criminal death investigation.”
Tran was involved in a two-car crash at the intersection of Chickasaw Trail and Valencia College Lane on the evening of September 29.
Orange County Fire Department paramedics who arrived at the scene of the crash had said, Tran’s injuries were not consistent with the crash. Tran, who had deep cuts to her neck, was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center and died a few days later.
On the evening of the crash, Tran’s sister had called the Orlando Police Department around 11:30 p.m., to report that she was missing. Tran, who worked at Emerald Nails and Tanning on South Orange Avenue in Orlando was headed home, but never arrived.
Meanwhile, deputies released surveillance video of a “person of interest” who was subsequently questioned and released. Deputies say, the individual “cooperated and voluntarily came to the Sheriff’s Office.” He was not detained and remains available to investigators.
The Medical Examiner is yet to determine how Tran died.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Office said: “Our Office will provide any continued assistance necessary, but FHP along with the Medical Examiner will provide information regarding cause/manner of death and the final conclusions, once they are finalized.”
