A DeBary woman was arrested early on Monday, after deputies say she left two young children in her vehicle for more than two hours, as she sat drinking in a bar.
30-year-old Cheryn Scaggs was taken into custody and charged with two counts of child neglect.
Deputies say, Scaggs sat drinking at the Shotz Sports Bar & Grill at 167 S. Charles R. Beall Boulevard for about two hours while two girls, ages 1 and 4 years sat in the backseat of her sports utility vehicle.
Witnesses told investigators that periodically Scaggs would leave the bar and return, but no one knew there were kids in the vehicle. Scaggs reportedly told one witness that the children were with a neighbor.
Investigators found an intoxicated Scaggs who had asked other bar patrons to help her get home.
Authorities say, the vehicle was not running, but the temperature outside was about 30 degrees. A windshield visor was also in place, hindering the view of the SUV’s interior.
The children were unharmed, deputies said.
Scaggs was booked into the Volusia County Jail in Daytona Beach.
