Karsceal Turner – I Got NEXT!
Welcome to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football action folks. It seems a little funny to say that since Bethune-Cookman University has fluently ripped their non-conference schedule apart, the only blemish on their record was that loss to then #8 Florida State.
Saturday, B-CU handed DSU a John Madden whipping to the tune of 21-7. Had the two teams been on the proverbial “sticks” of the popular video game, The Hornets would have to give up the seat!
Here’s how it went down. Quentin Williams ran for one touchdown and threw another as he helped No. 21/16 Bethune-Cookman pull away from a halftime tie to defeat Delaware State 21-7 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
We ain’t friends’ mayne!
B-CU faithful will remind you these two teams didn’t meet last year. However, it is a known fact that these teams don’t particularly like one another. You ask why? How would you like it if an opposing team beat you on your own turf, then decided to visit your campus?
Ladies and gentlemen, a fight broke out of historic proportions judging from the war scars I saw personally. It was a melee’ in which, both sides’ sustained injuries. Oh to be 22 again!
Anyway, history sort of repeated itself again Saturday, but without the bar room brawl.
The Wildcats took advantage of a Delaware State turnover to take the lead after being tied at 7 at halftime. Six plays after the Hornets lost a fumble at midfield, B-CU quarterback Quentin Williams rushed for a 31-yard touchdown on a fourth-down-and-one play with 6:02 left in the third quarter.
BCU added an insurance touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Williams to Eddie Poole with 4:40 left in the fourth quarter. Poole finished with four catches for 102 yards and extended his pass catching streak to 40 games.
Jackie Wilson and Williams combined to complete 14-of-19 passes for 168 yards for the Wildcats.
BCU, the MEAC’s top rushing team, ran for 241 of its 409 total yards. Cary White rushed for 65 yards, while Anthony Jordan ran for 61 yards and a first-half score as the Wildcats (4-1 overall, 1-0 MEAC) extended their MEAC winning streak to 15 straight – seven of those on the road.
Delaware State was held to 223 total yards, including 10 on the ground. The Hornets lost 36 yards on four Wildcat sacks. B-CU’s defense registered interceptions by Joshua Richardson and Nick Addison and a fumble recovery from Erik Williams.
The defense is speaking volumes folks. See it for yourself when the Wildcats take on yet another team named for a cat as the Savannah State Tigers come to town October 19 in another MEAC showdown during the Biker Classic.
Where is the Wildcats passing game? Makes me wonder if the Cats will last in the playoff.
@ Saves Me – That is the pressing question for B-CU faithful. We shall see how that unfolds.
