A vehicle recently ran over a man who was sunbathing at a Central Florida beach.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s office, a beachgoer was recently injured after he was hit by a vehicle attempting to back up into a parking spot in Ormond Beach.
The incident was reported around 10:43am. near the Cardinal Drive beach ramp. A 33-year-old Ocala man was sunbathing when the driver of a Jeep traveled outside of the travel lanes to back into a parking spot and ran him over.
The man suffered injuries to his thigh and arm. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the Jeep, a 61-year-old Ormond Beach woman, remained on scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. Deputies cited her with careless driving. There were no signs of impairment according to law enforcement.
They also noted that these were the initial details gathered during the early stages of the crash investigation, which was active and continuing.
