Universal Orlando Resort is keeping Volcano Bay closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays to start the year, continuing a trend with the Orlando water theme park. While Universal boasts it is currently a three park destination, there is no doubt the struggles from the pandemic along with construction costs of the new Epic Universe park have likely made the company decide to make Volcano Bay a 5-day park for even longer.
The Universal water park is also only open 10am-5pm currently. By closing two days a week and reducing park hours, Universal is saving big on staff costs.
In addition to Tuesdays and Thursdays being closed, the park will shutter if weather drops too low and ticket sales aren’t worth opening. On those days, if employees are scheduled they typically have the option to still work in order to get paid but in a different area of the resort. Perhaps another reason the company is not reopening seven days a week while the chance of cold weather is still possible.
No word yet on when the water park will return to operating every day of the week. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Universal’s Volcano Bay closed from November 2020 until March 2021. Here’s a look at Universal’s Volcano Bay park hours for the next few weeks:
Disney recently reopened Typhoon Lagoon water park, and closed Blizzard Beach for refurbishment.
