Feed Them All: County Adds 54 Schools to Food Program

The School Board of Orange County held a board meeting at 5:30 p.m. on August 10, 2010 at the Educational Leadership Center.   Below are the highlights of the meeting:

Universal school breakfast program to be put in place in 54 schools

State statute calls for elementary schools to offer breakfast to all students in schools where 80 percent of the students or more are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Statute requires districts to determine if they will include secondary schools at 80 percent and higher. In recognition of the documented evidence between good nutrition and the ability to learn, the board unanimously passed the universal school breakfast program for elementary and secondary schools where free and reduced-meal eligibility is eighty percent or greater.  To learn more about how it works, click HERE.

2011 legislative platform approved

During a previous work session, the board reached consensus on the platform to be presented to the Orange County, state, and federal delegations. Other members of the Florida Legislature and U.S. Congress may also be presented with the legislative priorities seen here as designated by the board.

School bus routes and bell times established for 2010-2011

Each year the board is required to formally adopt school start and finish times as well as the bus routes used to transport students to and from school. The school bell times can be viewed on the Transportation page of www.ocps.net on Wednesday, August 11, 2010.
