Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle was recently joined by Senator Ileana Garcia, Representative Juan Carlos Porras, Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez, and members of the SAO HOA/COA Task Force to address the sentencing of Marglli Gallego and her husband, Jose Antonio Gonzalez, for their roles in the theft and exploitation of the Hammocks Homeowners Association in South Florida.

Marglli Gallego was sentenced to seven years in state prison followed by seven years of probation after pleading guilty to grand theft and racketeering. Jose Antonio Gonzalez pleaded guilty to money laundering and will serve seven years of probation.

As part of their sentencing agreement, both defendants turned over a Homestead property valued at approximately $1.2 million to the Hammocks HOA and provided a $50,000 check to the association.

During the press conference, State Attorney Fernandez Rundle underscored the importance of transparency and trust within community associations, emphasizing that residents deserve responsible leadership and financial integrity in their neighborhoods.

The State Attorney’s office also extended appreciation to Chief of Investigations Emiliano Tamayo, Division Chief of Economic Crimes Anthony Gil, and Assistant Chief of Litigation Mary Ernst for their outstanding work and dedication throughout this case.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office said it remains committed to protecting homeowners, restoring trust, and ensuring accountability at every level.
