Although Donald Trump has not declared whether he will be running for the presidency of the U.S., most voters have an unfavorable opinion of him, including close to one-third holding a very unfavorable view of the reality TV star and businessman, according to a new Rasmussen poll released on Monday.
While Trump, does not suffer from a lack of name recognition, unlike several potential Republican candidates, some 53% of voters have an unfavorable opinion, including 29% holding a Very Unfavorable view. Only 39% have a favorable assessment, with 10% Very Favorable.
President Obama, in a 2012 hypothetical match-up with Trump, earns support from 49% of Likely Voters nationwide, while Trump attracts the vote from 34%. Given that choice, 12% would vote for some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided.
Only 65% of Republicans would vote for Trump over Obama.
Among voters not connected to either major party, 48% prefer Obama, 25% Trump, and 20% would prefer some other candidate.
Regardless of who the Republican candidate is running against the president, Obama earns between 42% and 49% support.
