Troopers have identified the driver of a truck who died on the spot when his vehicle, along with car that was struck, burst into flames on south Apopka Vineland Road near McCormick Road on November 7th.
The driver of the 1988 Ford truck was Ronald Kirkland, 49, of Apopka, Florida Highway Patrol said. Kirkland’s body was burnt beyond recognition when his Ford truck collided with a 2006 Honda Pilot, driven by Chelsea Rodriguez, 18, of Apopka, on south Apopka Vineland Road near McCormick Road late on Sunday, November 7th. Both the truck and the Honda were immediately engulfed in flames.
Kirkland and Rodriguez were pronounced at the scene.
Rodriguez, who was stopped facing east on McCormick road, west of Apopka Vineland Road, attempted to turn left to go northbound on McCormick Road, when the front of the Ford truck, heading southbound on Apopka Vineland Road, collided with the driver side of the Honda.
Alexander Price, 18, of Davenport, a passenger in the Honda, was able to exit the vehicle after the crash. She was taken to ORMC with serious injuries.
It is not clear if alcohol placed a role in the crash.
