A security threat was made against MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa in Central Florida.
“Shelter in place is currently in effect at MacDill Air Force Base,” the military base posted.
According to officials, the threat was made against MacDill Air Force Base and security measures were put in place.
“We take all threats seriously and are taking appropriate measures to prioritize the safety and security of our installation. As a matter of policy, we will not release specifics on what security measures have been implemented.”
According to reports, the military base was under heightened security because of a previous suspicious package scare. The FBI is investigating, according to reports.
Officials stated delays and tighter security were likely, among other security measures.
UPDATE: Posted by MacDill Air Force Base: “Shelter in place has been lifted and the gates are open and will resume normal FPCON Charlie operations. The threat to MacDill Air Force Base has been cleared and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. We take all threats seriously and will continue to prioritize the safety and security of our installation, our mission, and our people.”
Team MacDill includes 28 associate units from all branches of service to include U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command, and the 927th Air Refueling Wing. The presence of these two unified commands and other Mission Teammates creates a unique multi-service community at MacDill, with all branches of service represented. So, although MacDill is an Air Force Base, it is also home to many soldiers, sailors, Marines and coast guardsman.
