A Florida woman bit a law enforcement officer, and she was sentenced for her crime.
After biting a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office patrol officer and physically resisting arrest outside a local charter school, Erika McGriff pled guilty to Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and has been adjudicated guilty.
The incident occurred on October 7, 2025, after Officer Randy Holton contacted McGriff about her illegally parked vehicle outside the school. When McGriff refused to obey the officer’s lawful orders to move it, he attempted to take her into custody. McGriff violently resisted, biting Officer Holton hard enough to leave a visible impression on his arm.
The incident was captured on the officer’s body-worn camera, which JSO released publicly.
Erika McGriff was sentenced to: 120 days in the Duval County Jail, 12 months of community control, 50 hours of community service, completion of an Anger Management course, completion of the Batterers Intervention Program, completion of the Choices & Consequences course, and a letter of apology to the victim officer.
In an unrelated case, JSO stated that McGriff was arrested again for simple battery, marking her 10th arrest in Duval County.
Two other individuals were also arrested for violating Florida’s Halo Law after interfering with Officer Holton as he attempted to take McGriff into custody, according to local law enforcement.
“We are pleased that Erika McGriff voluntarily pled guilty to Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office posted. “Her adjudication as a felon and jail sentence reflect the reality of this incident: that Ms. McGriff violently attacked the victim officer once she recognized that she would be arrested. This agency will continue to transparently provide information in context. Ms. McGriff’s conviction and sentence not only provide justice to the victim officer, but also serve as a reminder to the public that the hate-mongering narrative driven by a media hungry for divisive, click bait stories and opportunistic, grandstanding lawyers is false. We are gratified that our victim officer stands vindicated by Ms. McGriff’s plea of guilty.”
