Tampa Police Traffic Homicide Detectives arrested a 22-year-old and a 19-year-old in connection with the fatal crash that occurred on June 3rd at the intersection of N Dale Mabry Hwy and W South Ave. The two suspects were charged with Vehicular Homicide and Unlawful Racing on a Highway.
“This is another example of our detectives’ unwavering commitment to bringing those responsible for traffic fatalities to justice,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “While we hope these arrests bring some closure to this tragic incident, it should also serve as a stark reminder of everyone’s responsibility to share the road safely.”
The first suspect, 22-year-old Andy Moya Robaina, was arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide and Unlawful Racing on a Highway. He was believed to be racing a dark-colored vehicle that fled after the crash.
On June 10th, authorities received information regarding the driver of the black Camaro involved in the incident and arranged a meeting. The driver, 19-year-old Daniel Hernandez, and his passenger then met with detectives.
After an interview, detectives were able to establish probable cause for Hernandez’s arrest. He was charged with Vehicular Homicide (leaving the scene), Unlawful Racing on a Highway, Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury, and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death.
According to law enforcement, Hernandez was transported to Orient Road Jail and his 2021 black Chevrolet Camaro was impounded.
