Suspect Facing Additional Charges after Injuring Central Florida Deputy

A 24-year-old suspect is facing additional charges after seriously injuring a Central Florida deputy, and his mother was arrested for her involvement in aiding her son.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office celebrated when Deputy Kalin Hall was released from Tampa General Hospital. Deputy Hall was seriously injured on July 5th in Tampa when he was rammed by the fleeing suspect.

Following a thorough investigation, and upon further review by the State Attorney’s Office, 24-year-old William Lewis, Jr. has received additional charges including:

  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Attempted Murder in the Third Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer

“These charges reflect the severity of this suspect’s heinous actions and demonstrate the resolve to address and penalize such criminal behavior,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Additionally, last week, 47-year-old Stephanie Brown was arrested for her involvement in aiding her son, Lewis, Jr., after he hit Deputy Hall with his vehicle and fled on July 5, 2024.

“The arrest of this fourth suspect speaks to the dedicated and detailed work of our deputies. It’s deeply troubling that a mother, whose role should be to instill values of right and wrong, chose instead to aid her son after he seriously injured one of our deputies,” said Sheriff Chronister. “As Deputy Hall continues to work hard towards a full recovery, I pray this latest arrest will close this chapter of an incredibly difficult time for him, his family, and our department.”

Brown is facing the charge of Accessory After the Fact.

This investigation is ongoing, according to local law enforcement.
