More Floridians (65%) plan to take a summer vacation of four days or more between May and September, an 8 percent increase from last summer, according to just released AAA Consumer Pulse survey.
Of those traveling, 36 percent plan on a beach getaway, 33 percent will hit a city destination and 28 percent say they will visit theme parks or attractions. Twenty-two percent of Floridians that plan to getaway will attend a family reunion and 19 percent will take a cruise.
Regarding expenditures, almost half of Florida travelers, (48%) plan to spend $1,000 or less, with two in five (41%) spending $1,001 to $3,000 and 12 percent spending more than $3,000 on their vacation, according to the survey.
While the number of Floridians who plan to drive to their destination is relatively the same as last year (49% in 2012 vs. 47% in 2011), there’s an 8 percent increase in those who plan to utilize air travel as their main mode of transportation. In 2011, almost four in 10 Florida travelers (38%) said they would fly to their destination, while 46 percent said they plan to fly this year.
