Shepherd’s Hope & Sand Lake Imaging Seek Community Support to Offer FREE Screenings in October

Who: Sand Lake Imaging and Shepherd’s Hope, a faith-based nonprofit serving Central Florida’s uninsured and underinsured through 5 free health clinics, are encouraging Orlando area women to participate in Get a Mammogram, Give a Mammogram, a 2-4-1 Pink October initiative that provides FREE screening mammograms to uninsured women who would otherwise forgo lifesaving screenings as a result of cost and/or lack of health insurance. This is the third year for this program. Since 2013, 320 screening mammograms have resulted from the Give portion of the program, a live-saving gift.
How: Women are encouraged to make the switch to Sand Lake Imaging for their own screening mammogram during Pink October. For each new patient, Sand Lake Imaging will donate a FREE screening mammogram to an uninsured Shepherd’s Hope patient in need.
Why: A mammogram (used for diagnostic and screening purposes) is an x-ray of the breast. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among American women. The American Cancer Society estimates that, in 2015, about 292,130 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed and approximately 40,290 women will die. Sand Lake Imaging and Shepherd’s Hope urge you to proactively combat these startling statistics by scheduling your own screening mammogram in October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) and, thus, gifting another women a FREE screening!
