Lame-duck Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty plans to push an aggressive agenda that will target three ordinances aimed at fighting crime and protecting human rights, as he winds up his 10 year term in office, a statement from the mayor’s office said.
Crotty will seek to strengthen the county’s existing Human Rights Ordinance to provide for a private cause of action for individuals who are the victims of discrimination related to housing, employment and public accommodations.
The Mayor also wants the Board of County Commissioners to adopt an ordinance that will place a moratorium on permits for new pain clinics to give staff time to craft new regulations building on recent changes in state law in order to shut down so-called “pill mills”.
The third ordinance will focus on recycled metals such as copper that have increasingly become the target of thieves. The release said that the Mayor has been working with Commissioners S. Scott Boyd and Fred Brummer to adopt an ordinance tightening county regulation of business that purchase metals for recycling purposes.
In addition to the ordinances, Crotty also plans to complete negotiations for a contract that will provide up to $20 million in public safety radios in time for a vote at the December 14th Board of County Commissioners meeting, his final meeting as Mayor. He also continues to have meaningful dialog with investors seeking to bring a New York Yankees minor league baseball team, museum and associated development to Orange County, the statement said.
