children-learning-at-the-computer1Gov. Rick Scott proposed Thursday, $100 million in funding for Florida’s charter schools in the new 2015-2016 budget.

Scott who made the announcement at Slam! Sports Leadership and Management Charter School in Miami said, the funding will go toward construction and maintenance of charter schools. Currently, $75 million is spent on charters.

“Our ‘KEEP FLORIDA WORKING’ budget proposal provides Florida students with the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. Florida students must be able to compete for the jobs of tomorrow,” he said.

Over 250,000 Florida students are enrolled in Florida’s 643 charter schools.

Earlier this week Scott proposed that the statewide K-12 education be increased from $18.9 billion to $19.75 billion.

If Scott’s proposals are approved by the Florida Legislature this would mean that per student spending would be one of the highest at $7,716, without considering inflation.
