The Orlando community is mourning and remembering the beloved Orlando Fire Department K9 Nessie.
The Orlando Fire Department announced with great sadness that its beloved Arson & Bomb Squad arson detection K9, Nessie, passed away.
Nessie was an exceptional arson detection K9 who was instrumental in multiple arson cases, some of which were linked to homicides. She assisted in arson investigations throughout Central Florida and trained with K9 teams throughout the county.
She joined OFD in April 2018 and became the third arson K9 for the department. It did not take long for her to make an impact as she was able to help solve a case in less than a year. On February 7, 2019, Nessie was called to search an Orange County home after a fire and her powerful nose led investigators to areas where an accelerant was present. Her involvement led to an arrest.
Nessie was born on July 24, 2015, and served the city of Orlando most of her life.
According to OFD, she not only excelled in her primary role as a detection K9 but also as an ambassador for fire prevention. She visited many student classes and was always the star of the show.
The Orlando Fire Department is mourning and remembering beloved K9 Nessie, saying:
“Nessie will be greatly missed by her fellow K9s, her handler (Deputy Chief, Jason Revoldt), and the entire OFD family. She brought so much joy and dedication to her work, and her legacy will live on in the cases she helped solve and the lives she touched. Rest in peace, Nessie. You will always be remembered as a true hero!”
