Perry Orders Casey to Return to Serve Probation

Chief Judge Belvin Perry has ordered Casey Anthony to report to the Department of Corrections in Orange County no later than 12:00 p.m. on August 26, to begin serving probation for check fraud charges.

Perry on Friday denied an Emergency Motion by Anthony’s attorneys to quash and have set aside an amended order of probation by Judge Stan Strickland to have Casey serve one-year probation in Orange County.

“It is very clear that the Defendant and her attorney knew she was to start her probation upon release from the Orange County Jail,” Perry wrote in his ruling. “Despite this fact, they took advantage of scrivener’s error which started the probation while she was being held in jail pending trial. The defense should not be able to claim that they are now harmed having the Defendant serve probation at this time.”

Perry stated that Anthony’s one year of supervised probation is to begin on the day she reports to probation. He also indicated that Casey or her attorney must contact the Administrator of the Florida Department of Corrections to arrange the time of place of her reporting to probation, 72 hours prior to her reporting.

Perry wrote that the court was mindful that many would like to see physical harm done to Casey and authorized the Department of Correction to keep confidential her “residential information and other information that could lead to discovery of her location due to threats on the Defendant’s life.”

Anthony walked out of the Orange County Jail on July 17, after being acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, and much to the outrage of many who followed her trial closely. Since then, she has kept a low profile and is believed to be out of state.

Anthony’s terms of probation remain the same as those ordered by Strickland. She is required to report to her probation officer no later than the 5th day of each month and not to change residence or employment or leave the county of her residence without first getting the consent of her probation officer. Anthony has also been ordered not to contact Amy Huizenga, a former friend, whom she defrauded. She must pay the State of Florida $20 per month toward the cost of supervision.
