Orlando Mayor Dyer announces Summer Camp programs

As part of the Mayor Dyer’s Strengthen Orlando initiative, the City is working to match individuals and families with free and low cost programs at City parks, camping grounds, playgrounds, community centers, after school programs, summer programs and camps.

In conjunction with this effort, the City of Orlando’s Families, Parks and Recreation Department is proud to offer a variety of affordable summer camp programs for elementary and middle school age children.  The camps operate from on June 9 to August 14.  The City offers a variety of camps including:

Camp Orlando — a five-day week program at 15 City recreation centers offers a diverse array of activities, such as swimming, crafts, outdoor activities, nature programs, exciting field trips (at an additional expense), computer labs, cultural arts and special events. Sites may offer different activities according to the interests of the children who participate in programs.  The weekly cost is $40 for City of Orlando residents and $50 for non-City residents. “Natural Expressions” Nature and Art Camp is for children ages 7-12 years old. This program consists of two summer sessions every Tuesday in the morning or afternoon. The cost is $25 for City of Orlando residents and $30 for non-residents per 4-week session. For more information call (407) 246-2150.

“Kids Clay Camp” takes place at the City’s Pottery Studio for children  ages 6-14 years old. It consists of two summer sessions every Thursday or Friday for 1 1/2 hours hours in the morning or afternoon. The cost is $25 City of Orlando Resident and $30 non-Resident per 4-week session. The City of Orlando offers scholarships to qualifying residents. To qualify for the summer camp scholarship, parents must provide a letter from their child’s school indicating their participation in the Orange County Public Schools Free and Reduced Lunch Program, and proof that they are a City of Orlando resident (i.e. water bill, electric bill and driver’s license with a City address).
