Taser Deployed, 14-Year-Old Central Florida Student Arrested with Handgun at School

A deputy deployed his taser as a 14-year-old Central Florida student with a handgun at school resisted arrest.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Armwood High School student for bringing a weapon onto school property and resisting arrest.

On October 21st, an HCSO School Resource Deputy received a tip from administration that 14-year-old Kwami Milton had brought a firearm onto campus.

When approached by the deputy, Milton refused to comply with commands to drop his backpack and attempted to flee down the hallway.

The deputy successfully arrested Milton after deploying a taser.

A search of Milton’s book-bag was conducted and revealed a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun.

Kwami Milton is facing charges of Possession of a Firearm on School Property, and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.

“Bringing a weapon onto a school campus is not only illegal but endangers the lives of students and staff and will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This incident could have resulted in far more dangerous consequences. We are committed to ensuring that our schools remain safe environments for everyone.”

Milton was taken to the hospital for medical clearance before he was transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
