With the start of the hurricane season, residents should ensure they’re prepared.
On Wednesday, June 10, Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz, Joel Hass, CEO of Mid-Florida Red Cross and other emergency preparation personnel will be holding a press conference to promote the upcoming “Orlando Prepares” event.
Orlando Prepares will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will include two separate fairs: Emergency Preparedness Fair and a Health and Information Fair. Orlando Prepares features workshops throughout the event sponsored by the American Red Cross of Central Florida on the following:
· Create a Plan
· Build a Kit
· Get Trained
· Volunteer
The Health and Information Fair includes glucose and cholesterol screenings, blood pressure tests, nutrition information, HIV testing and AIDS awareness program information, free items for diabetics, and a massage chair.
The event will also include a number of instructional classes for people to participate in throughout the day. Admission and parking are free.
