To tip-off the school year for local students, the Orlando Magic will host a Back to School celebration at the Callahan Neighborhood Center in Parramore (101 North Parramore Ave., Orlando, 32801) on Wednesday, August 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. for more than 200 youth from the Parramore Kidz Zone (PKZ).
As part of the back to school efforts, the Magic, Dixon Ticonderoga and Amway will provide every youth with supply-filled backpacks and hygiene products as well as a back to school celebration featuring face painting, laser tag, Star 94.5 dance station, inflatables, free haircuts, photo booth and more. The day will also include appearances by Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw, STUFF the Magic Mascot and the Magic Dancers. The backpacks and school supplies are courtesy of the Magic, Dixon Ticonderoga, and Amway. Additional event contributions such as free haircuts are provided by the Hair Lounge and Paul Mitchell School.
“The Magic is proud to host its third annual Back to School celebration with Dixon Ticonderoga and Amway,” said Magic CEO Alex Martins. “The Magic believes in the power of education and understands the importance of providing all students with the resources necessary to be successful in school. We hope this event gets the youth from PKZ excited and ready for the upcoming school year.”
The Magic, Dixon Ticonderoga and Amway’s other back to school efforts include an overall donation of more than 2,100 supply-filled backpacks, benefiting students currently enrolled at the City of Orlando community centers and Orange County community gyms.
Parramore is Orlando’s most impoverished area with 73 percent of children living in poverty.
