Orange County Sheriff Deputy Remains in Jail

The Orange County Sheriff’s deputy who was arrested on Wednesday and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault, is still in the Orange County Jail.

46-year-old Deputy Sheriff Louis Malofsky, spent Wednesday night in jail, after he was arrested by his colleges at the Sheriff’s Office earlier that afternoon.

A judge on Thursday increased Malofsky’s bond to $10,000 and ordered him not to contact the victim or victim’s family, nor to return to the scene of the offense.  Malofsky was also ordered to turn over his passport within 72 business hours of his release and to stay at least 1,500 feet away from any place frequented by the victim and victim’s family.

Malofsky and another man are accused of going to the home of 30-year-old Jose Lopez-Echenique on Woodberry Coast Drive in East Orange County, around 3:30 am on Wednesday morning, where a physical altercation ensued.  Lopez-Echenique told investigators that he was threatened by Malofsky with a gun and battered during the altercation. Malofsky has also been accused of stealing a gun and magazine from Lopez-Echenique, although he later returned to firearm.

Malofsky has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery. He was relieved of his duty by the Sheriff’s Office, without pay, and ordered to relinquish his badge, credentials and gun.

A statement from the Orange County Jail received around 4:00 pm, on Thursday, said there is nothing “to indicate that any bonding activity is on going or imminent regarding Deputy Malofsky.”
