Orange County Deputy Patrol Car comes under Fire

UPDATE: 11:15 am

The active search for a suspect who fired a number of shots at a deputy on routine patrol in a marked agency vehicle is being called off at this time.  The incident will continue to be actively investigated by the Sheriff’s Office in an effort to determine who fired the shots.  The deputy nor his vehicle were hit by the gunfire.

Anyone with information that would lead to a suspect and arrest in this case is encouraged to call CRIMELINE at 407.423.TIPS.  Callers do not have to identify themselves and they could be eligible for a cash reward it the information the provide leads to an arrest in this incident.

An Orange County Deputy Sheriff’s deputy patrol car was fired on this morning and it is suspected that the shots came from the direction of Malibu.

On January 6, 2010, at approximately 9:09 AM, an Orange County Deputy Sheriff driving in a marked patrol car reported that a number of shots were fired from a wooded area at his patrol car.  The deputy was near the intersection of College Drive and Willie Mays Parkway when he reported that the shots were fired at his car.  The shots possibly came from the direction of Malibu.

The deputy was not injured by the gunfire.  Also, at this time, it is not clear whether the vehicle was hit by any of the rounds.

A number of units, including K-9 and CHASE 2, have responded to the scene an in attempt to locate the gunman.  currently, the shooter remains at large.

An active search is underway for a suspect in this incident.
